Andy and Jamie Murray claim crucial win for GB in Davis Cup final

Andy and Jamie Murray claimed a four-set win against Steve Darcis and David Goffin to give Great Britain a 2-1 lead over Belgium in the Davis Cup final.

The brothers dropped the second set but delivered a valuable 6-4 4-6 6-3 6-2 victory in the doubles clash, and Andy Murray can secure Britain's first Davis Cup title since 1936 when he faces Goffin in Sunday's opening singles rubber in Ghent.

Belgium opted to bring Goffin into their line-up, despite his draining five-set win over Kyle Edmund in the singles, and their No 1 player justified his selection with composed play from the back of the court in the early stages.

Strangely the Murray brothers appeared the edgier duo and Andy was forced to fend off a break point with an ace to hold for a 5-4 lead.

That service game appeared even more crucial when the British pairing broke in the next, with Andy producing an assured volley to seal the set.

But the Belgians, roared on by a vociferous home crowd, fashioned a break of their own in the second set as Jamie's double fault gifted an opportunity which Goffin gratefully took with a thumping overhead volley.

The two Brits could not retrieve the set, letting a break point slip away after Andy fumbled his forehand into the net, and Goffin levelled the match with a volley.

The British duo held their nerve during a break-filled third set

GB captain Leon Smith had even more cause for concern in the third set when Jamie surrendered his serve again, but his trusted pairing produced a battling response and broke back immediately.

Both sets of fans became increasingly raucous as more breaks were exchanged, with the Brit pairing claiming a decisive third, and Andy kept his cool in the cauldron-like atmosphere as he served out for a 2-1 lead.

The wilting Darcis was then broken at the start of the fourth set, but the hosts made a determined stand, dragging Jamie into a marathon service game which saw him protect seven break points before he finally held serve.

When Darcis was broken again, the Brits had victory in their grasp and Andy served out for the victory and can complete a Davis Cup triumph on Sunday
