PC Gamer UK December issue – Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Image
A vent. Spacious, breezy, and filled with giant grates through which to look. A flash of movement? Who's in there. It's Tom Senior, crawling into Square Enix's heavily guarded office. Throwing a flashbang to stun a patrol of accountants – he jumped out and over a stairwell, landing smoothly on the floor below in a glorious flash of yellow light. Through a door was his target: a playable build of Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Tom's report can be found as the cover feature of this month's PC Gamer. Also this issue, Tom Hatfield rounds up the best of the best of GTA 5 mods, and Samuel wonders if Star Wars Battlefront is the FPS that Star Wars fans deserve. We've got free gifts, too. This month, you can get a Steam key for Epigenesis, and unlock Ares and the Destroyer skins for Smite. The issue, which is in shops now, can be ordered through  My Favourite Magazines . Digitally, you'll find it on the  App Store ,  Google Play , and  Zinio , and you can  subscr

Build of the week: In Win D-Frame Terminator

Image
‘I’m from the future, bay-bay!’ is probably what this PC would say if it could talk (I’ve never seen a Terminator movie). ‘I want to kill your son!’ is probably the other thing it would say. But if your son/humanity's future savior really has to die, death by Terminator aesthetics (chrome and custom cooling solutions) doesn't seem like a bad way to go. Sorry, future. The In Win D-Frame Terminator is made by the group Modder CROW, a renowned team out of Thailand. Most immediately impressive is the build’s terrifying robot face, though I’m more concerned for its well-being than my own. Having sentience while embedded in a gaming PC doesn’t sound like the greatest time. But at least the robot face is surrounded by some nice lighting, custom cooling (because you can’t just go around killing CPUs), and powerful hardware. It’s all arranged neatly in a modded D-Frame, a chassis from  In Win , known for their eccentric open designs. Be sure to check out Modder CROW’s  Facebo

A technology that can bring dead back to life might be a reality soon

Image
Researchers plan to bring dead to life by freezing their brains and then resurrecting them with artificial intelligence Bringing the dead back to life is futuristic and final frontier of science and Humai is working on just that. Humai is a technology company based in Los Angeles and is working on a project known as “Atom & Eve” that would let human consciousness be transferred to an artificial body after their death. The artificial intelligence company has said it can resurrect human beings within the next 30 years. The “conversational styles, [behavioural]patterns, thought processes and information about how your body functions from the inside-out” would be stored on a silicon chip through AI and nanotechnology. Humai researchers are banking on three technologies –  bionics, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence  – to achieve their goal of bringing the dead back to life and they feel that it will take around three decades for them to achieve this goal. Anonymous targets Iceland in protest against whaling, brings down Government websites

Image
Anonymous Takes Down Five Icelandic Government Websites to Protest Whale Hunting Online activist group, Anonymous on Friday took down five websites belonging to the Icelandic government and two other websites to protest against whale hunting in the North Atlantic The Anonymous had announced two campaigns called #OpWhales and #OpKillingBay to bring world attention to the illegal whaling being carried out around the world. Iceland has been carrying out commercial whaling despite of ongoing global moratorium against killing whales established by the International Whaling Commission in 1986. That is the reason Anonymous has targeted Icelanding government websites. According to local Icelandic website  Grapevine.is , activists belonging to Anonymous took down 5 Icelanding government websites through a Distributed Denial of Services (DDoS) attack, however, the sites are online as of now. The five targeted government websites belonged to the Ministry of the Environment and Natura

Robot taught to disobey humans which could mark the era of self-aware AI

Image
Is this the beginning of the end for humanity as we speak? Recently, researchers from Tufts University in Massachusetts are training robots to understand the same sensation of human beings when making a decision. In this way, they will, or will not obey the commands of the human beings, which is something to be worried about. While this could be thought of as a clever approach in order to operate futuristic machines verbally without having to operate them manually, training robots to disobey commands is not exactly a smart thing to do. If anyone has paid even an ounce of attention to the ‘Terminator’ series, then they will realize that all of humanity was wiped out since Artificial Intelligence or AI started becoming self-aware and wiped out the entire human race in order to preserve its existence. Additionally, great science fiction writer Isaac Asimov’s Three Laws of Robotics states the following: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human b

The guy who invented USB is not getting a single cent for it

Image
This guy is OK for not making a single dime for inventing the USB Used in more than 10 billion devices throughout the world, the USB turned 20 years old last week. However, the man who discovered the technology has not made a single penny off it and he is fine with it. Ajay Bhatt, Intel’s Chief Systems Technologist, who’s largely responsible for inventing the USB technology, told Business Insider, “I don’t do these things for money. I did this to bring about change, and it’s not very often that somebody gets a chance to bring about this big a change.” As a matter of fact, the USB technology did not make money for anyone. This is because Intel, who was the first one to back Bhatt’s USB idea and who owns all patents to the technology had decided from the start to make it open and royalty free. Bhatt believed that Intel had every right to do so. The USB which is now regarded as the standard for connecting different devices, was once met with a lukewarm response from tech com

Facebook’s “Most Used Words” App Accused Of Stealing Personal Data

Image
“Most Used Words On Facebook” App Collects Lot Of Your Personal Information Facebook newest application not only wrecks personal space but is making users wondering if it’s worth it. The “What Are Your Most Used Words on Facebook?” app created by a South Korean company named Vonvon displays a “word cloud” based on your frequently used words in past status messages, and assembles them into a picture that shows the most common ones in a larger size. The application might seem like fun at first, but UK-based VPN company Comparitech warns that it is a “privacy nightmare.” According to Comparitech, which first reported the privacy issues says that the app has been shared over 16 million times. The site wrote “That’s over 16 million people who agreed to give up almost every private detail about themselves to a company they likely know nothing about.” In order to make the application work, basically you need to grant the application access. In other words, when a Facebook user signs

“How Can I Be As Great As Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Steve Jobs”: Elon Musk’s Ex-wife Has Answers

Image
How can I be as great as you?” – This question is often asked to great personalities who have achieved something fascinating in their lives. Justine Musk, an author and ex-wife of Elon Musk, has tried to answer this question and today I’m sharing it with you. W hen we read the greatest success stories in the tech world – Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Richard Branson, Elon Musk and others – we find out that such “extreme success” comes at the cost of many other important things. Labeling obsession for something that fascinates you as the most important factor, Justine Musk has shared some great advice on Quora. Justine Musk was married to Tesla, SpaceX, and PayPal founder Elon Musk for more than nine years. She is a writer with the contemporary fantasy novel BloodAngel as her notable work. In her answer, she writes that extreme success is different from ‘success’ and it demands compromises. People who achieve great success are misfits and often labeled as freaks. Such peo

US Embassy in Afghanistan warns of Kabul attack within 48 hours

Image
The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan issued an  emergency message for U.S. citizens in the country's capital Monday, saying it had received "credible reports of an imminent attack" within the next 48 hours. The statement said that there were no details available regarding the attack's time, target or method. However, it urged Americans in Kabul to "exercise extreme caution if moving around the city." Earlier this month, the State Department issued an updated travel warning for Afghanistan in the wake of the terror attacks in Paris. That warning advised Americans not to travel to Afghanistan, citing the "extremely unstable" security situation. Taliban militants have stepped up attacks on Afghan government facilities in recent months. On Saturday, a suicide bomber targeted a member of the country's election commission in Kabul, killing the official's bodyguard and wounding his driver. In September, Taliban fighters briefly overran Afghan forces

AMD warns of card-cooking Crimson driver bug

Image
AMD has confirmed the existence of a bug in its latest Radeon Software Crimson driver bundle which causes fans to spin too slowly, but not before users have reported complete GPU failures as a result.   Released last week,  Radeon Software Crimson  is a major rewrite for AMD. Boasting a brand-new control panel system and boosted performance, AMD also made much of the bundle's new quality assurance programme: compared with the previous Catalyst bundle, the company claimed at launch, the Crimson package features double the number of automated test cases and a further 25 per cent manual test cases, along with a 15 per cent increase in the system configurations on which the drivers are tested before release. Sadly for AMD, all that extra testing doesn't seem to have stopped a rather serious bug from sneaking through. Reports have been surfacing since the launch of Crimson that using the software causes the fans on a graphics card to spin more slowly, increasing the temperature of t

BitFenix Pandora ATX Review

Image
BitFenix Pandora ATX Review Manufacturer:  BitFenix UK price (as reviewed):   £99.95  (With window and display),  £86.99  (no window or display) US price (as reviewed):  TBC The  original Pandora  was an interesting case. It had a few hallmarks of previous cases from other companies but in general it was unique looking and a relatively fresh addition to the case scene. One of our main bugbears with it though was its limited cooling potential. It had just 134mm of CPU cooler clearance and only just enough room for a dual 120mm fan radiator too. It was also limited to micro-ATX motherboards, but BitFenix has gone back to the drawing board to make a bigger, more potent version.   Click to enlarge And here it is. The Pandora ATX is a much larger case with an additional 40mm of width and 100mm of depth, allowing it to offer a home to a much more feature-packed PC. There's also enough space for ATX motherboards too in addition to several larger fan mounts, more drive mount

The Microsoft Band 2 Review

Image
At the end of October in 2014, Microsoft surprisingly released a late night press release about a new device they were launching. It was  the Microsoft Band , which is a fitness wearable that was a key component of their Microsoft Health service. It was their first real wearable, and it was packed with sensors to track everything from your heart rate to your sleep quality. At the  Microsoft devices event  in NYC on October 6 th , Microsoft announced an updated version of the Band, known as Band 2. Its goal is to provide even more health insights, while being more comfortable and stylish than the original Band. The first obvious question though is what the Microsoft Band actually is. In a time of everything from step counters to smart watches, where does the Band 2 (which will be called Band from here on out) fit in. Apple has the Apple Watch, Google has Android Wear, and Microsoft has the Band. But it’s not really a smartwatch, although it does do some of the things a sma
