Captain America: Civil War – Black Panther Actor on the "Mystery" of His Role

One of the many highlights of the new trailer for Captain America: Civil War was the first sighting of Black Panther. The legendary first-ever black superhero will be making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in the movie, and now actor Chadwick Boseman has been speaking about the role.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Boseman explained that his portrayal of Black Panther--aka T'Challa--will be very different from the wise-cracking approach adopted by Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark. "He's definitely not the life of the party in this instance," he said. "I think this is something true of the comic book character and the movie.
"You never quite know where he stands. There's always a bit of concealing and mystery. So I think mysterious is more his boat. Not to say there's not charm and he can't be a ladies' man and all that. It's more like if there is humor, it's more like James Bond."
Civil War focuses upon the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man, following a new law to register superhero activity. T'Challa plays a major role in this fight, and while Boseman didn't go into details about it, he said: "There definitely is a sort of tradition that he's torn between, in terms of how things were done in the past and how things need to happen now in this new world."
Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, and made his debut in a 1966 issue of Fantastic Four. Boseman will go on to play the character in a standalone movie, which is scheduled for release in February 2018.
